January 2019 Athlete Of The Month

Meet Justin Romero…

Justin joined us shortly after we opened in October 2018. His first day at CrossFit 926 he tackled a modified version of FRAN and since then he has progressed immensely, even knocking out most of the workouts as prescribed! We are so proud of his progress and cannot wait to see what he can achieve!

As part of being Athlete of the Month, we asked Justin a few questions, his answers are below:

1.Where are you originally from?
Charlotte, NC

2. What do you do for a living?
I am currently a consultant in the financial services industry but will be joining my family's telecommunications business at the start of the new year.

3. What are your favorite hobbies?
CrossFit, drones, YouTube and podcasts.

4. What is your athletic back ground?
Prior to CrossFit 926, I played collegiate lacrosse at the varsity and club level. After college, I tried to balance travel, work and fitness through self-guided workouts

5. Why did you choose CrossFit 926?
I met Jake and Zach at a pop-up shop in Huntersville and was immediately impressed with their passion for CrossFit. I was intrigued by how eager they were to start a business with an emphasis on building a community. After a conversation about fitness, Jake went on to explain the meaning behind the name 926 and I knew the gym / community was something I wanted to be a part of. Once the gym opened, I attended my first CrossFit workout, a humbling experience, and realized the gym could take my fitness to the next level and provide an opportunity to meet motivated individuals.

6. What is your favorite CrossFit movement?
Kipping pull ups - As a CrossFit rookie, I had limited exposure to the sport but had seen footage from the CrossFit games of athletes performing kipping pull-ups and I wanted to learn how to perform the movement

7. What is your favorite thing about CrossFit 926?
The community is incredible. The coaches are invested in the fitness levels and programming for members but also take an interest in member's families and hobbies outside of the gym. The other athletes are constantly pushing each other to be better and providing strategies / feedback on how they approach workouts or specifics movements.

8. What advice would you give to a CrossFit newbie?
Have an open mind and remember "fail fast, succeed faster". It takes time to develop many of the movements and skills necessary to get through a workout but never let an obstacle stand in the way of your progress.
