July 2019 Athlete Of The Month

Meet Susan Arrington…

Susan AOM.JPG

Susan came to CrossFit 926 with her husband, Erik, during the first week of the 2019 Open... the first workout to be exact. So needless to say that Susan's first experience with CrossFit 926 was 19.1... 19 minutes of 19 wall balls and 19 calories on the rower... not really a good first impression! BUT, a few months later, she dropped in to try out the Spark Program and since then, I really don't think she has missed a day! Susan is the first official member of our 926 Spark program and we could not be more proud of her commitment and her progress! Make sure to introduce yourself to Susan and give her a high five!

As part of being Athlete of the Month, we asked Susan a few questions to get to know her a little more, below are her answers:

1. Where are you from?
Originally from Newburyport, MA but I’ve been in the Lake Norman area since 1995.

2. What do you do for a living?
I manage marketing and communications for Lake Forest Church in Huntersville.

3. Favorite hobbies?
Traveling with family, hiking, Panthers football and live music.

4. Athletic Background?
Kinda :) Competitive cheerleading in high school. I’ve always enjoyed weight training. Ran a half-marathon in Nashville a few years ago - glad I did it, but distance running is not my jam.

5. Why you chose CrossFit 926?
My husband Erik was really enjoying 926 community and I was in need of a new gym environment - a spark you might say - after several years doing a local boot camp. I figured why not give the trial a try and found the movements and coaching was just what I was looking for.

6. Favorite movement?
Inchworm pushups.

7. Favorite thing about CrossFit 926?
It's just the right amount of nudging to push harder, get one more rep, etc. The acceptance of being who you are and where you are in your fitness journey. In Spark, I love the variety of fitness levels and seeing each person grow more confident each week.

8. What advice would you give to a new comer?
Just keep showing up. Don’t compare yourself to others, just focus on your own progress. Oh, and don’t forget to breathe.
